IT’S TIME TO DO SOME
In 2002 we decided that we wanted to move from the UK but we didn’t know where..
As a family (There are 6 of us) we sat around a globe in the front room and discussed what we all thought.
We ended up spinning the globe and stopping it with a point of a finger, taking it in turns…
First stop was the very top of Canada… we all agreed.. far too cold…. Second stop was France…. Too close to home..
Next stop Africa… I can’t remember exactly where but everyone was very excited and that was that…
Now all I had to do was to get a job in Africa…
I applied all over and nothing really happened for a few months when a friend called me and said that he had a job come in that could be right up my street and it was in Africa….
I asked where it was, he said, you will love it, wonderful climate. I asked where it was, he said it was a great company. I asked where it was, he said it’s a good salary, a house and a car… My suspicions were alerted that there was going to be a…. but….
Where is it again?….. Oh…. Zimbabwe…..
Oh, you mean the land in turmoil? .. that's the one, yes… but it is a great place…
After I was convinced to go along for an interview in London, I plucked up the courage to tell Ma. Funnily the same two words popped out of her mouth, as did mine…
I duly went to the first interview, and then a second with the MD, who invited Ma and I over for a final interview and to meet the team in Zimbabwe to see how we fitted in…
Where it all began...if we only Gnu then what we Gnose-knot now

The interview in Zimbabwe lasted a week.
It changed my life and my perception of it… I fell in love with Zimbabwe in that one short week. The people, the place, the peace, the ethic… Everything… I did not want to come back home and probably wouldn’t have done if we did not have to get work permits sorted out before I would be allowed to start work there. That took another 6 months, which seemed like an age..
By the time it came through and we were ready to move, The children were aged from 10 to 4
The 6 of us, upped sticks and moved half way round the world, to a country in turmoil and a world of opportunity.
The best thing that we have ever done..
I will tell you more about it and some of the stories and share some of the pictures that influenced us and our choice of materials
Time to do some digging
A taste of where we began.
